R-408A is a nearly-azeotropic "service blend", its use being limited in time by the Montreal Protocol. This HCFC has been developed to replace R-502 (CFC) for commercial and industrial applications.

It is preferable to use R-408A for reconversions of refrigeration units of supermarkets, for refrigerated storage rooms, for food freezing systems and for cooling cabinets for refrigerated food.
