CAR AIR CONDITIONING
R-1234YF: THE NEW REFRIGERANT FOR CAR AIR CONDITIONING!
2.7 million cars are expected to be registered in the UK this year*. New cars can no longer use R-134a in their air conditioning systems, manufacturers have now switched to R-1234yf which has a much lower GWP. This change is being driven by law ruling that all new vehicles sold in Europe have to use a refrigerant with a GWP below 150 from 1 January 2017.
R-1234yf – a low GWP refrigerant
R-1234yf offers the best combination of environmental safety and ease of use. It offers a GWP of less than 1, which is 99.9% lower than R-134a, the refrigerant it is set to replace, plus it’s even less than CO2, an alternative refrigerant with a GWP of 1.
R-1234yf is a fluorinated gas from the HFO (HydroFluoroOlefin) family of refrigerants. It has the same cooling capacity as R-134a and offers atmospheric lifetime and fuel efficiency benefits too.
Within the crash repair industry and the aftermarket, you will start to see more and more vehicles coming through bodyshops and workshops requiring this HFO refrigerant, so it’s a good idea to have some in stock now.
